Project Summary
Love our Land works with farmers, land managers and communities to put nature-based solutions into action. It aims to address urgent environmental challenges by planting riparian buffers, hedges and trees, proactively managing soil health and implementing citizen science programmes
Using citizen science, we plant in best possible places to prevent floods and run off into rivers and lakes. A small intervention that makes a big impact:
- Increasing biodiversity – hedges, trees and buffers providing homes for wildlife and space for pollinating plants to thrive
- Cleaning water – a natural filter and flood barrier, healthy soil and strong roots reducing erosion
- Capturing and storing carbon contributing to net zero
- Increasing positive community actions – getting community and schools involved and raising awareness
Why is it Needed?
Land is the heart of our UNESCO World Heritage Site. Extreme weather events have increased flooding and erosion. Vital topsoil is being lost, washed into water courses along with fertilisers and slurry, putting the landscape and water quality under threat. To protect our landscape, we urgently need to create resilience to climate changes. Love our Land in centred on climate resilience.
